A 60-Ton Heavy-Duty Flatbed Trailer Solution for Construction and Logistics in Senegal

A Senegalese construction and logistics company needed to upgrade its transportation fleet after experiencing structural problems with its existing flatbed trailers. Frequent frame bending and floor wear affected the reliability of its daily transportation operations. To address these concerns, RUCKMAN recommended a reinforced 3-axle, 60-ton heavy-duty flatbed semi trailer with upgraded structural components and running gear. After reviewing the proposed configuration, the customer placed an order for 2 units.

Customer Background and Operating Conditions

Our customer is a construction and logistics company in Senegal, handling the transportation of bulk cargo, building materials and containers.

Its daily transportation operations involve different road conditions, including paved highways and rough laterite roads around construction and industrial sites.

These operating conditions place considerable demands on trailer structural strength. Heavy loads generate substantial vertical forces, while uneven road surfaces and turning movements introduce additional shocks and torsional forces into the chassis.

The Customer's Challenge: Trailer Frame Bending Under Heavy Loads

The customer reported that its existing flatbed trailers had experienced frame bending and floor wear during operation. These structural problems affected the reliability of daily transportation and created the need for a more robust replacement.

For heavy-duty flatbed transportation, the main beam and supporting frame structure play a critical role in carrying the payload. Under heavy loading conditions, insufficient structural strength can increase the risk of frame deformation. Repeated shocks from uneven roads may also place additional stress on the cross members, suspension and deck structure.

Based on the customer's previous experience, the main requirements were:

  • Stronger main beams to improve resistance to bending.
  • Reinforced cross members and chassis supports for better structural stability.
  • A durable steel floor suitable for heavy and abrasive cargo.
  • Heavy-duty suspension components to accommodate demanding road conditions.
  • Reliable cargo-securing equipment for different types of loads.

The customer required a flatbed semi trailer with a rated payload of 60 tons, making structural reinforcement and component selection important considerations in the proposed configuration.

Our 60-Ton Heavy-Duty Flatbed Trailer Solution

Based on the customer's requirements, RUCKMAN recommended a 3-axle, 60-ton flatbed semi trailer with reinforced structural components and heavy-duty running gear.

Rather than focusing only on the rated payload, the configuration considered the complete trailer structure, including the main beam, cross members, loading platform, suspension and cargo-securing equipment.

A. Reinforced Main Beam Structure

The main beam is one of the most important load-bearing components of a heavy-duty flatbed trailer.

For this configuration, the main beams feature a heavy-duty, high-strength structure with reinforced upper and lower flanges. This design improves structural rigidity and resistance to bending under heavy loads. The reinforced beam structure provides the primary support for the loading platform and helps distribute forces throughout the trailer frame.

B. Densely Arranged Cross Members and Reinforced Four-Beam Framework

To further improve structural stability, the trailer uses densely arranged cross members together with a reinforced four-beam framework.

Multiple side supports are incorporated into the frame structure to help distribute loading forces and maintain platform rigidity. This arrangement provides additional support beneath the loading platform, particularly when the trailer carries heavy construction materials and other demanding cargo.

C. Heavy-Duty Steel Loading Platform

The loading platform combines a heavy-duty side frame with a durable patterned steel floor. The reinforced platform structure is designed to accommodate heavy cargo and resist wear associated with repeated loading, unloading and transportation. The patterned steel floor also provides a practical loading surface for various types of general cargo.

D. Heavy-Duty Axles and Leaf Spring Suspension

The running gear is configured to accommodate the trailer's 60-ton rated payload and demanding transportation conditions.

The trailer uses three heavy-duty ZY axles combined with premium leaf spring suspension. The leaf spring suspension helps absorb shocks from uneven road surfaces and supports load stability during transportation. This configuration is particularly relevant to operations involving transitions between paved highways and rough laterite roads.

E. Reliable Tires, Kingpin and Braking System

The trailer is equipped with TRIANGLE brand 13R22.5 tubeless tires, selected as part of the heavy-duty running gear configuration. A reinforced JOST kingpin is used for the tractor-trailer connection, while the braking system is configured to support the vehicle's heavy-duty transportation requirements. These components work together with the axle and suspension assembly as part of the complete trailer configuration.

F. Comprehensive Cargo-Securing Equipment

For different cargo transportation requirements, the trailer incorporates multiple rope hooks and tightening devices to help secure loads during transportation. A tall corrugated front guard provides additional front-end cargo protection. Reinforced container locks are also included to accommodate container transportation.

A Reinforced Trailer Configuration for Demanding Transportation

For construction and logistics operators, selecting a heavy-duty flatbed trailer involves more than checking its rated payload. Structural strength, chassis support, suspension design, tire selection and cargo-securing equipment all contribute to the overall trailer configuration.

In this project, RUCKMAN addressed the customer's previous concerns about frame bending and floor wear through a combination of reinforced structural components and heavy-duty running gear.

After reviewing the proposed configuration, the customer decided to purchase 2 units of 3-axle, 60-ton flatbed semi trailers. The project demonstrates how trailer configuration can be adapted to the actual transportation requirements and operating conditions of construction and logistics businesses.
